Phone vs. Security Blanket

I find it interesting that when we refer to as our “phone” isn’t a phone anymore. Some time during the last twenty years we all as a society just collectively started using our phones for way more things than actually talking to one another, the thing the phone was invented for. In fact, talking to someone else on the phone is what we do the least on the phone. Why not call it a “social media device” or a “google box” or a “security blanket” or a “handheld computer that provides us with dopamine and instant gratification?”
